Lap Banding: How does it work?
One of the common questions about lap banding is how they do it without slicing open a huge gash across your belly. It is accomplished by making small incisions in your abdomen. From those incisions, they are able to insert a Laparoscope, which is essentially a camera attached to a tube and inserted into the abdomen. The camera transmits images back to a monitor that the surgeon can work with. The surgeon uses other tubes called trocars which are airtight tubes that contain the tools the surgeon needs. The abdomen is filled like a balloon with CO2 gas to give the surgeon room to work, and from there, the lap banding begins.
